Protest against Dominion Covenant Cult Continues January 22nd

OMAHA, NE – The protest against the hate group, Dominion Covenant Cult, and the UNO Alumni Association for housing them will continue this Sunday, January 22nd at 9am til Noon. Please join us and bring any signs that admonish the Dominion Covenant Cult  and their Senior Pastor, Phillip Kayser, for supporting the death penalty for the LGBT community for homosexuality.  Also, we need signs admonishing the UNO Thompson Center and the UNO Alumni Association for housing this hateful group.

Protesters have been gathering every Sunday in January to protest the hate group.  The OPD and UNO campus security have a presence there, allegedly there have been bomb threats made.  Personally, I doubt it.  After the protest Sunday, January 15th, a cop followed one of our protesters from UNO all the way to Crane Coffee near 76th and Cass, so they are keeping an eye out for protesters, unreasonably in my opinion.

If you would like to contact the UNO Alumni Association you can call or send emails to their CEO, Lee Denker, email is ldenker@unoalumni.org phone:  402-554-2851.  The last response I received from Mr Denker is that they were looking into their rental policies. They’ve had two weeks, now.  I’d like to see what their rental policies have to say about it.

The protest event does have a FaceBook event page, you can see it here.  Please join the event and post any discussion you find relevant.

Anti LGBT Dominion Covenant Protest Update.

OMAHA, NE – A small group of Omaha’s LGBT community and their straight allies held a protest against the anti LGBT hate group Dominion Covenant Church Sunday morning from 9am-11am.  The event is a weekly protest to be held every Sunday at 9am at the intersection of 67th and Dodge St through at least the month of January.  The event was held in response to news that the senior pastor, Phillip Kayser, supports the death penalty for homosexuals.

At the start of the protest, OPD and UNO campus security were present.  It is ironic UNO Campus security was on Thompson Center property, as the UNO Chancellor, John Christensen replied in various emails that the Center was not part of the UNO Campus. I have my doubts, now.  During the course of the protest, we were told that the Dominion Covenant Church has allegedly received threats.  I would like to see proof of such threats, but in lieu of further information, I would like to state, that I, Ken Riter, as author of this blog and event host, nor anyone present at the protest support any violence of any kind.  We are peaceful protesters simply using our rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. For the most part, the protest occurred without incident.  But someone in our group saw a friend enter the Thompson Center, became curious and entered the building.  The OPD and UNO Campus Security went into action, and a female cop became a little huffy with us. This was when we found out about the alleged threats.  If you or anyone you know is making the threats, please end it, now.  Also, two religious organizations share the building on Sunday mornings.  (And somehow I thought I could have a Sunday protest with NO DRAMA!!!)

On a lighter note, the author and owner of the blog, Aksarbent was there in attendance. He interviewed me, and also taped the UNO Campus Security truck at the center to show it was there. Here is the youtube interview video:

Also, if you’d like to join us, please do. We will protest every Sunday at 9am-11am thru at least January.  We are also looking for signs and posters specific to admonishing the Dominion Covenant Church/Cult,  and questioning the sense of UNO Alumni Center and UNO to allow such bigoted behavior on or near campus.  Also please send an email to Lee Denker, CEO of the UNO Alumni Association. They are in charge of renting out the building to the hateful Dominion Covenant Cult.   ldenker@unoalumni.org  Ask them not house this hate group and to release their rental policy to you and the general public.  If they support killing homosexuals, ask them to show where in their policy it says that.

OMAHA, NE – Crazy Ultra-Conservative Nebraska is considering its own voter ID law.  Its being introduced by none other than one of its own ultra-crazy ultra-conservatives, Charlie Janssen of Fremont. The bill, known in Nebraska as LB-239, would require state or government issued ID be shown to election officials before a resident can cast a vote in any election.  I think its absurd anyone would even consider a law like this that violates a citizens’ right to vote.  Even Senator Janssen acknowledges that there have been no incidents of voter fraud in Nebraska.  Apparently, when you and your party are desperate to maintain power you’ll do whatever it is you need to, including disenfranchising some 130,000 Nebraskans who would not be able to vote if LB-239 became law.  Its a shame that on the Great Plains, home to people who are supposedly fair minded, politicians here think they have to be on the extreme right to get anything done.

As one would expect, there are citizen rights groups upset and consider the law amounting to a poll tax as residents will have to pay to get their ID.  The 130,000 Nebraskans expected to be affected negatively by LB-239 include young, elderly, poor and minority voters.  Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 is Voter ID Lobby Day and Bold Nebraska has an excellent article covering the details.  Buses will take concerned citizens in Omaha to Lincoln from North and South Omaha on Jan 11th. The buses will leave at 8am from Omaha OIC at 2724 N 24th St and the GI Forum at 2002 N St.  Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps told WOWT 6 news “while his office has taken no official position on the proposed bill, the way it is currently written would create an extra burden on his office during elections.”  If you will be negatively impacted by LB-239, please join the Voter ID Lobby Day effort!

Anti LGBT Hate Group Conducts Church Services at UNO

OMAHA, NE – Ron Paul is proudly being backed by an Omaha, NE based anti LGBT hate group called the Dominion Covenant Church.  The pastor of the church, one Phillip Kayser, supports bringing back the death penalty for homosexuality. As you can see in the link above, this hateful church has been conducting services on the UNO campus, at the William H Thompson Alumni Center, to be exact. They conduct services every Sunday at 9:30am.   So any protest or demonstrations planned should start promptly at Sundays 9am!!  😀 At the end of this issue, I will be leaving a list of phone numbers angry and disappointed citizens can call, including the center’s reservation office.

Phillip Kayser is the Senior Pastor of the Dominion Covenant Church, and he did not hide his belief for the gay death penalty when asked in an interview with Talking Points Memo.  In this recent TPM article called, “Death Penalty For Gays: Ron Paul Courts The Religious Fringe In Iowa, ” Pastor Kayser doesn’t hide his belief in a homosexual based death penalty and even acknowledged some writings based on this belief.  This PDF file was posted in the BiblicalBluePrints website, but the page has mysteriously disappeared.  Bigots can be quite slippery like that.  Let’s not forget, Mean Jean Stothert did something similar when she received thousands of emails urging her to support equality, she just claimed she only received a handful of emails.  We need to be on our toes, as activists, advocates and good citizens to combat the outright evil that exists in our current system.

Here is a list of phone numbers you can call and emails you can send to complain to UNO about them allowing a disgusting hate group that advocates killing an entire group of Americans based solely on who they love to conduct its services right on the UNO campus!  Like Nancy used to say,  JUST SAY NO!!!!     All UNO offices are closed until January 3rd.  Phone lines open at 7:30am!!!  You don’t have to call all the numbers, but I think it would help.

Please share this with friends, so we can make a statement: No hate group, like the Dominion Covenant Church that advocates the Death Penalty for any group for noncriminal reasons, should ever be tolerated at a campus for learning and higher education!!
