Two Peas in a Hate Pod, Politicians in Retreat.

OMAHA, NE – Like two peas in a hate pod, Council members Franklin Thompson and Jean Stothert both droned on about what they didn’t like about equality for members of the LGBT community.  Thompson went on saying that since blacks didn’t get their rights in 17 months, neither should the transgendered.  Stothert, for her part, whined and finger wagged that no one should tell her how she feels about LGBT legislation.

Jean Stothert commented about Keno, asking if the religious organizations could still receive the gambling money if they were exempt from the Equal Employment ordinance. To find out why she asked, you can look on her Campaign Finance filings and see that Big Red Companies gave her $500 in August of 2011. You will also notice she received $500 from Payroll Maxx, which has the same address as Big Red Companies, same business, same address, different name?  Who knows.

Mean Jean Stothert

Mean Jean Stothert believes Churches should be able to accept dirty money from sinful gambling, while being allowed the right to discriminate against those dirty, sinful gay homosexuals.

Jean Stothert continues her ridiculous onslaught against the LGBT Community claiming that she has received emails from them demanding the new police chief be from the LGBT Community.  Here is as excerpt:

“Nathan: The LGBTQ “Community” isn’t overstepping anything, nor do they support what Jean posted. She supposedly got some random emails from a few people and is portraying it like the entire community is trying to force the OPD into hiring a LGBTQ chief.

Jean Stothert: Nathan – you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Unless you have access to the City Council’s emails and phone messages (which you do not) you do not have the ability to say what people are saying and what the content of their messages are. Your statement is ridiculous.

Nathan: So you are in fact claiming that the entire LGBT Community is pushing for the Mayor to select the new chief exclusively from a pool of people from the LGBT community? And you call my statement ridiculous?

And there you have. I will be posting more excerpts in the future, it is time to call Jean Stothert out on her hate. I’d like to say, let’s OCCUPY her page!!  She tolerates many disparaging remarks about the LGBT Community on her page, but if she feels you are too aggressive in standing up for yourself, she will simply remove you from her page.  Fair and balanced, she is NOT!!!  Here is a video, finger wagging included.

And let’s not forget about Franklin Thompson, who said blacks didn’t get their right in 17months, implying the LGBT Community shouldn’t either.  Time to call out Franklin Thompson on his ignorance. Here’s a 10 min video from the day of the vote.

Somehow Franklin Thompson thinks only 4 out of 10 LGBT people are born that way.  I don’t understand how a college professor cannot understand the material after 17 months.  I know his students don’t get 17 months to learn the material he gives them. What a shame. I feel sorry for any student that has him.

Franklin Thompson needs to go.

Franklin Thompson needs to go.

Rally to Protect Your Right to Vote!

OMAHA, NE – The Douglas County Election Commission has plans to close down numerous polls Omaha east of 72nd.  To protect our right to vote, Nebraskans for Civic Reform and Nebraska Appleseed are sponsoring a Rally outside the Office of the Douglas County Election Commission. As you may already know, Dave Phipps, a Republican and the Douglas County Election Commissioner, made the decision to close half the polling sites within Douglas County most of which lie east of 72nd Street.

Adam Morfeld, president of Nebraskans for Civic Reform, told the Omaha World Herald,  “the three Omaha state legislative districts with the most minority residents will be among the places with the fewest polling stations. Those are districts where income is lower and voters are more likely to be elderly or without transportation to get to the polls, according to discussion at the meeting.”

If you value your right to vote, please join the rally, Thursday, March 22 at noon for a rally and press conference at the Election Commissioner’s Office and protect your right to vote.  The Rally’s FaceBook Event Page list several organizations as rally sponsors, including Nebraskans for Civic Reform, Nebraska Appleseed, and Black Men United.

Voting is a civil right granted by the Constitution and should be protected, no matter the cost.

Omaha Opens For Business For EVERYONE!!!

OMAHA, NE – The City of Omaha adopted an ordinance on a 4-3 vote protecting sexual orientation and gender identity for employment and public accommodation earlier this week.  Omaha City Council members Jerram, Festersen, Gray and Gernandt all Democrats voted yes, while Republicans Stothert, Mulligan and Thompson voted NO. The ordinance did grant an exemption for religious organizations. It took almost two hours for the council to even come to a vote as many of the politicians droned on about their views on Ben Gray’s ordinance.  Coverage about the news spread like wildfire across the nations’ LGBT news and blogging sites.  With the passage of these protections, Omaha belatedly joins 35 other major US metros and over 160 cities nationwide.

Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle signed the ordinance Thursday afternoon, March 15th at a ceremony in City Hall.  The new ordinance will come into effect on March 28th.  Mayor Suttle applauded the City Council on passing the ordinance, saying, “Omaha is a city that welcomes diversity, embraces fresh ideas, and is open for business to everyone.”

What was even more impressive than the passage was the council member who switched their vote, Garry Gernandt, who hesitated a couple moments before giving a “yes” vote.  The audience audibly gasped as everyone realized he had given the additional vote that was needed.

Video below is from AKSARBENT.

Next article, will be on Thompson and Stothert, I have some wonderful quotes from Jean Stothert’s FaceBook page.   After that,  hopefully some non-LGBT centered stories for a change, this is a Progressive Blog after all.  It wasn’t meant to just cover LGBT issues 🙂

OMAHA, NE – Omaha’s LGBT Community endured a harrowing public hearing Tuesday, March 6th over Ben Gray’s Equal Employment Ordinance which would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the city’s list of protected classes.  National LGBT Blog Towleroad and local blog Aksarbent both covered great stories on this as well!  Many members of the LGBT Community and their straight allies spoke in favor of the ordinance, telling stories of harassment, hiding and frivilous termination over their sexual orientation or gender identity. They also had to endure tales of ignorance, hate, bigotry and outright religious quackery from the ordinance’s lesser informed opponents.

Perhaps these lesser informed opponents could explain just what the hell STD’s have to do with workplace discrimination and when the last time God sent floods and tornadoes to destroy a city for homosexuality? Of course, there is the Old Testament, but even after the so called Great Flood, God promised not to destroy the world in that fashion again.  That’s when God gave the gays the rainbow!  LOL  Where in the New Testament did God ever send floods and tornadoes to destroy?  You know what he did send down?  Jesus. Why?  Because he loves ALL of us.  Funny how these so called Christians will single out one sin from the Bible and go on a crusade.

God Loves, But With Restrictions

God Loves, But With Restrictions. Religion couldn't look more man-made. FAUX Public Service Announcement from the Nebraska Heritage Coalition. LOL

These hypocrites can tell us that homosexuality is a sin. Great!  Where does it say that in The Constitution?  It doesn’t, and court rulings have ruled that religious freedom grants others freedom FROM religion and that since the government will not establish a state religion, that inherently creates a separation of church and state.  Why is that so hard?  Also, council members like Thompson, Gernandt, and Mulligan want to hear the facts about the issue, since when did religious quackery become the facts to decide a civil issue?  Dear religious quacks, please bring proof that God even exists. Thank you.

A number of these enlightened and lesser informed opponents formed some sort of Omaha based Axis of Evil who call themselves the Nebraska Heritage Coalition. Several members of the anti-gay Nebraska Heritage Coalition thanked Mean Jean Stothert.  Apparently, to get it all started took just one political booty call.
