John Ewing Makes Gains in Congressional Race.

OMAHA, NE – John Ewing, current Douglas County Treasurer and NAACP Living Legend Award recipient is running a very strong race against incumbent and do nothing Republican, Lee Terry. John Ewing received a well deserved endorsement from the Omaha World  Herald after Lee Terry bungled and over exaggerated his accomplishments in Congress.  Someone of us have always known Lee Terry has done nothing in DC, and the OWH has had this information for years, despite the fact the endorsed him consistently before the 2012 election cycle. Its about time the OWH used this information properly and fairly.

National Democrats are riding in to help Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing after The World-Herald Poll showed  him making huge gains against incumbent Republican Lee Terry in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.  The House Majority PAC is helping out with some ads in support of John Ewing. It is about time some organizations stepped in to help out!

About a couple months ago, Ewing released his plan for Medicare.  He disagrees with Lee Terry into turning it into a voucher program. Ewing plan for Medicare would allow the Health & Human Services Secretary to negotiate drug prices for Medicare Part D.  This could save at least $24 billion annually, using the same negotiation techniques that the Veterans’ Administration uses for its prescription drug program.  This has the potential to save the Medicare Part D up to 50% of its current costs. Ewing also supports efforts to cut fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare system as well. Click here to see more about John Ewing’s plan for Medicare.  Ewing also supports cutting the budget deficit, including making the rich pay more and restructuring the tax code.

John Ewing also has the “Have Obama’s Back” endorsement, demonstrating that he will support Obama’s policies if elected to Congress, thus breaking the gridlock resulting in a Do-Nothing Congress.  Ewing also supports LGBT issues and received and endorsement from a local group called Forward Equality.  The Washington Times has a great bio for John Ewing online. In his Washington Times profile, Ewing says, “I’m running for Congress because for too long Washington and Lee Terry have ignored Nebraska taxpayers and the middle class.  We need to cut wasteful spending and significantly reduce our national debt, but Congressman Terry has chosen instead to protect the special interests.”      I agree, I think its time to get Lee Terry out of office, don’t you?

Occupy Omaha Discriminates!

This is an article  by a friend. It is just one of many articles about some of the trouble we have encountered with some people in the group.

OMAHA, NE – Congressman Lee Terry (NE-R) of Nebraska 2nd Congressional District has run into some campaign issues in the past week or two and they having some negative impacts on his campaign.  Earlier this week Terry admitted to not fact checking his fact checkers.  A ridiculous excuse since its his campaign to begin with.

This morning, Lee Terry woke to find out the Omaha World-Herald is endorsing John Ewing.  That must be quite a wake up call!  Finally, Lee Terry’s lack of credibility is finally catching to his lack of accomplishment. Lee Terry claimed a bill, Hill-Terry was passed and helped the US cut its energy use, the truth is, it never passed the committee level.  Good grief!!

What I find really disgusting about this is that the Omaha World-Herald (Omaha’s Biggest Conservative Media) had this same info before but never looked into it seriously until this election. Makes you wonder if they were just trying to influence it in favor of Terry ( a Republican) up to this point in time.  Especially since it was finally put out into the open after another Lee Terry mess up, falsely accusing  John  Ewing of overspending as Douglas County Treasurer.

If you want to keep tabs on just how worthless Lee Terry has been, is now and always will be in public office, check out this locally ran blog, Aksarbent. It has some very good articles about Do-Nothing Lee Terry.

Let’s Not Forget About LGBT Friendly Churches.

OMAHA, NE – While I have been posting articles criticizing local bigoted and anti-LGBT churches in the area, let’s not forget about the churches who are LGBT friendly.  The Heartland Proclamation was officially announced June 15th, 2011 and has become a beacon of hope for members of the LGBT Community who still want to worship in a place friendly to Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgendered people.

According to the Heartland Proclamation website: “The Heartland Proclamation is a public apology to LGBT persons for times clergy have been silent when we should have spoken a word of grace and good news.  It is also an affirmation that ‘the essence of Christian life is not focused on sexual orientation, but how one lives by grace in relationship with God, with compassion toward humanity.’  The Proclamation calls for an end to all religious and civil discrimination based on sexual orientation and celebrates the prophetic witness of those who have met hatred with love.”

The Heartland Proclamation currently has over 261 signers from local area churches.  Below is excerpt from the Proclamation itself.

As Christian Clergy we proclaim the Good News concerning Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons and publicly apologize where we have been silent. As disciples of Jesus, who assures us that the truth sets us free, we recognize that the debate is over. The verdict is in. Homosexuality is not a sickness, not a choice, and not a sin. We find no rational biblical or theological basis to condemn or deny the rights of any person based on sexual orientation. Silence by many has allowed political and religious rhetoric to monopolize public perception, creating the impression that there is only one Christian perspective on this issue. Yet we recognize and celebrate that we are far from alone, as Christians, in affirming that LGBT persons are distinctive, holy, and precious gifts to all who struggle to become the family of God.

Its nice to know that not every religion in Omaha believes the LGBT Community is disgusting and evil for who they are. I just wish these hateful churches would respect the beliefs of other religions the way they want to be respected, know what I mean?

Are Local Churches Being Hypocritical?

OMAHA, NE – With the recent push of Omaha area anti-LGBT Churches against LGBT protections, do these churches and their people really have a place to judge members of Omaha’s LGBT Community? I think not. Let’s look at the Catholic Church. Have they completely cleaned up the whole priests molesting children fiasco?  No they have not. Yet they continue to stand against LGBT rights and protections initiatives.  I have yet to see where in the Bible it says homosexuality deserves to be set aside and punished above all other sins.  Pedophiles in the Church get the Churches protection,  LGBT people with jobs and families, get the boot and the pink slip.

During the last round of  LGBT issues in Omaha, Jean Stothert explicitly asked if the workplace protections ordinance would interfere with the ArchDiocese access to Keno money. Its very apparent they are receiving the money.  Its basically gambling money and very hypocritical, I think, for the Church to be taking, but then singling out LGBT people for discrimination laws.

The Protestant Churches who hate gays are also just the same, as are their religious organization counterparts like Boy Scouts of America keeping files of gays and child molesters, but of course, failing to keep child molesters away from the boys, but definitely keeping gays away from their jobs.

In fact, information shows that because of all the gay bashing by these churches is why America is losing its religion.  Which is ironic, because I think many of these churches act out against a group to blame for their problems in an attempt to save their denominations numbers.  We are getting the same knee-jerk reaction from Tea Partiers fighting the inevitable truth that whites will only be a plurality in America and not the majority rule.

Hypocritical Catholic Bishops.

The Church protected child molesters within its ranks. But it actively pushes for laws that allow LGBT people to be punished for who they are.

How many people offended by this pic looked the other way when the child molestation became front page news?
