Omaha Celebrates the Gay American Dream at The Max

Omaha’s Premier Gay NightClub, The Max with the help of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) is celebrating the Official Repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Tuesday Sept 20th, 2011 at 9pm. The Max will celebrate with Happy Hour all Night, Beer Bust, Bomb Pop Specials and more. Plus they will also have Specials w/ Military ID for Active, Retired and Reserve!

Please encourage any LGBT servicemembers to come and help celebrate this historic day.  Many servicemembers are still afraid to come out of the closet, but I think it is safe to let them come out and celebrate a day members of the LGBT Community and Allies have fought for far too long!

The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network was created to help the LGBT Community in the military deal with DADT. According to their about page:

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network is a non-partisan, non-profit, legal services, watchdog and policy organization dedicated to ending discrimination against and harassment of military personnel affected by “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT). We work to end DADT, to ensure parity for LGBT service members, and to provide free, confidential legal services to all those impacted by DADT and related discrimination. Since 1993, our in-house legal team has responded to more than 10,000 requests for assistance.”

Quite an outstanding lists of services. If you would like to make a donation to SLDN, text SLDN to 85944 make a $10 donation.

Jean Stothert Accustomed to “Crying Wolf”.

Its seems our esteemed anti-gay politician, Jean Stothert, is accustomed to telling lies and crying wolf when it suits her.    One day, when doing a Google search of her, I stumbled on a discussion going on about the LGBT protections vote in the City Council in Oct 2010 and I found this post, its an email response to a bigot thanking Jean Stothert for protecting all the bigots from the big gay menace: here is the contents of that email response-

Hi Susan – thank you so much for taking the time and sending me your comments – I really appreciate it. Since last Tuesday’s vote – the three Councilmembers that voted to oppose the ordinance (Stothert, Gernandt, Mulligan and Thompson(who passed)) have been flooded with emails and phone calls from the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) community. The message has been rude, verbally abusive, vulgar and threatening. We received a “death threat” call into the office yesterday. Now, we have been informed that the National GLBT organizations have been asked to target us four Councilmembers.

We all realized that this issue would be divisive and there would be very strong feelings on both sides of the debate – but never realized that there would be such intolerance for opposing points of view. I do feel that my vote and my position – is the right position and I will remain firm.

Thank you again and best wishes.”

She even has the audacity in the letter to claim she received a death threat. I don’t remember that being in the news last year, do you?  Click here to see the forum I found it in.

This false claim should come as no surprise, she threatened to sue this gay activist when she falsely accused him of creating this Twitter account on her Facebook page.  She made especially sure to warn everyone that he’s a gay activist and in fact received much sympathy that a gay person would attack her perfect self in such a manner. I can assure you I NEVER created that Twitter account, and Jean Stothert NEVER had any proof indicating that.

She’s also made claims of threats from the Fire Union Leader, but other than a couple of news articles, nothing ever came of that, either.   What do you do with politicians who cry wolf all the time?  Maybe the City Council needs term limits?

Omaha Not Inclusive of LGBT Issues

The Omaha World Herald proudly writes about how inclusive Omaha is, even after it shunned the future reintroduction of Ben Gray’s non-discrimination ordinance.  Cultural Diversity? I call BS!!! Not one mention of the LGBT Community. Where is the outcry from the LGBT community against Diversity Week?  They call Omaha inclusive, but it doesn’t include us. These are types of things people in the Omaha LGBT community need to start responding to loud and clear!!!

Mike Yowell of the Council Bluffs Community Alliance posted this on the United For Equal Rights in Nebraska group page, “Omaha a “forward-looking city”? Really? Four of five Council Bluffs city council members marched in the gay pride parade this year, and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce thinks Omaha is forward-looking? The Council Bluffs Community Alliance (the gay group in CB) joins the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce and is welcomed with open arms. The mayor of Council Bluffs appoints openly gay people to city-wide commissions. And Omaha ignores its LGBT community but still claims it is diverse. Wow!”

Wow is right, the Omaha World Herald is opposed to equal rights protections for the LGBT Community, claiming it would hurt Omaha businesses, they have no right to claim Omaha is inclusive.  Honestly, without LGBT inclusiveness in Omaha, Omaha isn’t even open for business!

Even after its pointed out to me that its only ethnic and cultural diversity they are talking about, I must go on.  Queers are present in EVERY culture, we should be represented in some manner. Within days of Ben Gray’s announcement on his non-discrimination ordinance, the OWH released an editorial saying we shouldn’t be included in employment and public accomodation protections because we would hurt local businesses. This false claim that Omaha is inclusive is just a direct continuation of the Omaha World Herald’s ignorant opinion.  Despite the fact it is an editorial, they provide absolutely NO information as to how or why it would hurt business.  I’d have to caution the Omaha World Herald on their tactics  as organiations that provide false information or wrong information about any group of people, including the LGBT Community could be certified a hate group by organizations who monitor information about the LGBT Community.

And where is the Omaha LGBT Community’s defiant response to the notion that diversity excludes them?   Are we still camping out in Camp Closet?  Mike Yowell adds, “These days inclusive means inclusive of gays and lesbians, too. The article said, “Supporting cultural respect and understanding is the right approach for businesses.” But they purposely left out the gay culture. There should be protests in Omaha!”

We definitely need a reaction from our community.  I strongly suggest members of the LGBT Community and our straight allies call the Omaha World Herald and let them know they are wrong! Call the Omaha World Herald at 402-444-1000 and ask them why the LGBT Community should continue to be excluded from Omaha culture and identity.  Let them know if you are LGBT or an ally.  One key element of standing up for our own civil rights is providing a proper response against all incidents of bigotry and exclusion around us!  Lets speak up now!!!

Jon Bruning, Nebraska’s Little Political Prostitute

Jon Bruning has grown a reputation of being an ultra-conservative embarrassment to Nebraska, but once upon a time this Republican buffoon wrote beautiful, ultra-liberal articles in The Daily Nebraskan. This has been mentioned in numerous stories over the years, but my favorites are the ones that purport him to be someone kind of political prostitute, selling himself out to the ideas that will garner him the most votes and more importantly, elected office.  Take that idea in perspective with the recent revelations of this politician’s newly revealed wealth.

Jon Bruning also has a reputation for for saying some of the dumbest things in Nebraska politics, among them equating a man marrying a man to the same as a man marrying a chair.  He didn’t mention anything about a woman marrying a woman, but like a hypocritical bigot, I assume its one of his fantasies. Recently, he compared welfare recipients to raccoons.  What is really unfortunate is that the Attorney General is far less wily than raccoons and welfare recipients.

Bruning is a political raccoon, but not too wiley.

Just recently it was revealed that Jon Bruning added millions to his wealth during his term as Attorney General, and if elected to the Senate he would be one of the top ten richest Senators. Put that in perspective. According to the OWH, Bruning is worth between $12 milion and $61 million. If you go by the higher estimate, $61 million, Bruning would easily make the Top Ten list of Congress’s richest lawmakers.

And to add to Bruning’s annoying ultra- conservative reputation he has created a Tea Party connection, most likely just for the votes. He is the type of politician that would go to such extremes.  Tea Party is and always will be, extreme and fringe, in my opinion.  He is so desperate for political attention he held a rally in Omaha with the Tea Party Express bus and had as a special guest, Nevada Tea Party psycho, Sharron Angle, the desert hag herself.

For someone who claims to be for the people, yet refers to those who live on welfare as raccoons, he sure is making a lot of money with tax payers’ dollars, yet he sure makes the easiest choices to garner himself some votes, I think calling Jon Bruning, Nebraska’s Little Political Prostitute is an absolute understatement.

Jean Stothert’s Mean History on LGBT issues.

Jean Stothert’s Mean History on LGBT issues.

Over ten years ago Millard Public Schools made a horribly incompetent decision by removing all classes from their harassment policy, ensuring that protections for sexual orientation and gender identity never exist there. This is after students at the time made complaints about being called “faggots”, “queers” and similar words by their classmates. Not only did the school board remove ALL protected classes from their harassment poilcy, some school board members denied the harassment ever happened. To this, they ensured they added punishments and disciplines for lying about harassment that would surely frighten already scared and defenseless LGBT students if they are served with the burden of proving the incidents took place.

Jean Stothert, Omaha’s Blonde Queen of Mean, was on the school board at the time and she spearheaded those moves to ensure that, by any means necessary, sexual orientation would not be protected in her school district. You can bet that what this imbesil did on the Millard School Board, she wants to see this happen on a local, state and federal level, that is her anti-gay agenda.

Ten years later, I wonder how those changes worked out for the students. Ten years later, I hope those decisions Mean Jean Stothert made come back to haunt her.

Let’s not forget her bigoted behavior on the Omaha City Council; she brought in those Kansas City lawyers to pry apart Ben Gray’s non-discrimination proposal. She also made the staunch claim that LGBT protections would hurt Omaha businesses. What a ridiculous, factless notion from an incompetent City Councilmember. I would like proof showing all those Fortune 500 companies that are hurting because they allow members of the LGBT community to work there. What about every other federally protected group? Did they destroy American businesses? I think not.

Mean Jean Stothert also had the dreaded Family First organization get involved as well. Family First is a Nebraska based anti-gay hate group that advertises ties with ceritified national anti-gay hate groups like Focus on the Family.
